What Is Texas Like?

What is the Republic of Texas like? On the surface to the public outside the state it looks like a bunch of people in tin foil hats running around wanting to wear guns outside their pants, but they miss the entire point. The spirit of Texas is a second chance. When the first Anglo settlers came to Tejas they came here for a number of reasons. Mexico offered a new start, and enough land to make that start. The so called America wasn't fifty years old, and already the lawyers and bankers had stolen the entire idea and ran off with it. People like Crockett, Houston, and Travis had issues, and brothers and sisters they had ISSUES, and were scouting new territory.

Debt, divorce, wrecked careers, and more, they all had a dog in this hunt. Mexico offered an opportunity to wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Now Mexico wasn't a bad place. The constitution of 1824 was pretty straight up. The Texican's only problem is they thought the Mexican government, which was Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the time, would honor this document. Well Santa Anna had another idea. Ignore the constitution and like Burger King, he wanted to have it his way. Gee, where have we seen THAT before, hmmm? So, he charged up into Texas on what's called an exhibition.

Let me set you straight on old Mexico, and new Mexico. We all see the Mexico of today and imagine that's what it's always been. Au Contraire! The Mexico of 1836 was formidable. It wasn't written in stone that if America jumped on Mexico just who would come out on top. Swat them bees, swat them bees! There were no "cartels" in those days, Mexico WAS a cartel! Highly disciplined soldiers that looked like Napoleon's finest, headed up by German advisors.

To stand up against such an army is frankly insanity. The defenders of the Alamo were out gunned, under manned and their commander was inexperienced. Jim Bowie was good with a knife, but he was sick and this weren't no bar fight! This was a war against a man who intended to wipe the slate clean his own way. He was going to make Santa Anna's march to the sea, or gulf rather, leaving burning crops behind, and friends and neighbors, he was open for business. So why did the men of the Alamo stay?  Because they had nowhere else to go.

What made them load up and come to Texas was so strong it was worth dying for. And they did die for it. And, as you know, Sam Houston delivered a decisive blow to the Mexican army at San Jacinto. Texas became a republic. There are two things that never work out. Remarrying an ex-wife and going back to the country you were chased out of. Well, that's exactly what Texas did. The people of Texas were sold a bill of goods that the plan all along was to take Texas away from Mexico and give it to the United States. Cheers went up, fireworks went off and Texas became a state. Well, by 1861 it was all over and it SURE was Monday, and it's been Monday ever since!

The sad thing is Texas continues to succeed in spite of its unemployed brother in law, the United States of America. Texas has scores of laws and regulations to keep the Nortés in New York City, but they're  a sneaky lot. Under the guise of "America" they've infiltrated our government, our business, and our lives. When we try to let them know this is still Texas they think of us as quaint people in tin foil cowboy hats. Time to go.

I did a round table today and one of the subjects was America's continuing ties to England. The bankers both there, and in New York seem to have some kind of hold on Americans that was just reinforced by the American revolution, but you see, that's the way it's always been and THAT'S what the Republic of Texas is all about. Texas does not have to bow on bended knee because some little old lady in London thinks she's a queen! Texas does not have to burn Arab oil while our derricks sit rusting in the fields. Texans do not have to give a portion of their income to a paper mâché government so it can pay the interest to some private bank for the loan of hot checks.

And where is the Republic of Texas. To the unschooled the idea is the "state" they know of. This is not so. The original Republic extended up into Wyoming, Colorado, some of New Mexico, much larger than what you see now. The New Republic of Texas will be this, and more. Any western state that wants to buy into the proposition. Maybe even everything west of the Mississippi River. Think I'm crazy? Hey, Las  Vegas, how'd you like NO income tax? California, you listening?

The powers that be in "America" don't need to fear the "Republic" of Texas as much as the "Spirit" of Texas. You see, that's what brought all them fellers to the Alamo. That's what made them stand. That's what Sam Houston was talking about under that oak tree that day after the battle. Like, the men of the Alamo, Americans have no place left to go! If we win just maybe America will sit up and take note, maybe, just maybe, they might get their "America" back. You know, that one that Jefferson and Ben Franklin wrote about. Uh, we didn't HAVE no "Jeffersoncare!" So, before you laugh at us just think, when was the last time you went through an entire day and didn't have to think about the government? Yeah, Texas is like that!
